Ernesto Carozzo

BIO

Ernesto Carozzo (born 1979, Lima, Peru) completed his photography studies at Lima’s Centro de la Fotografía in 2007. From the beginning, he focused on artistic photography, supporting his personal projects through commercial work. His series often explore various moments in photographic history, spanning portraiture, still life, landscape, and his unique depictions of the sky. In 2019, he began using painting to highlight and transform different elements within his photographs, and this approach has since become central to his artistic exploration.

CURATORIAL

Living with a nonverbal child is one of the most challenging yet profound experiences life has given me. It’s like scaling an immense, beautiful mountain, a silent giant I strive to reach, to glimpse his inner world. Sometimes, I long to know his thoughts and hear his voice. Just being beside him stretches my creativity, helping me interpret his gestures—a gentle head tilt that feels like gratitude or a smile I’ve come to cherish, even his averted gaze when he doesn’t want to listen.
The photographic project Sensaciones seeks to express these emotions born of our nonverbal communication. It includes sky photos marked with phrases like “thank you for being here,” “I like this,” “I’m hungry,” or “help,” representing our unique way of connecting. These images undergo a transformation through fire, symbolizing a ritual of sending these words and desires into the universe, feeling that they’re heard by a higher consciousness.
Each image is paired with a video showing the words and the burning process, serving as both a record and a symbolic testament to what the final image represents.
