Rincón Projects is a roving platform for contemporary art that aims to carry out various projects that encourage and support artists and their careers, collecting, curating and research in art. It works on the following conceptual lines: the relationship between art, architecture and urbanism, geometric abstraction and its new meanings, multidisciplinarity in art and photography, exploration with new and diverse materials, environmental sustainability and society.
What is your ideal type of collector? My Ideal type of collector is the one that has a clear idea of what he/she likes and collects, is interested in the process of the artist, understands what Contemporary art proposes and how it is related to the history of Art. Also knows how to handle a contemporary work of art, and at last but not least, pays on time and is respectful both with artists and gallerists.
What, on the contrary, is the sort of collector you try to avoid at all cost? The collector that I call the ART HOARDER, and the one that never pays or pays a year after.
Who is the collector from whom you have learnt the most, and why? I frequently think about something Donald Bryant talked about one time I attended a lecture where he was the guest speaker. It was about the importance for the collector to have a good relationship with gallerists. If the collector pays on time, respects both the artist and the gallery, most likely the gallerist will give that collector the first choice of buying over other people that did not act like that. I think this is important especially for young collectors or people that are starting to collect.
What, if any, is the mistake you would never make again? There are many things that I would avoid, but I guess it is part of the process of learning. What, if any, is the best deal you have ever made? I am always happy with the deals I’ve made, but I was especially happy when I placed one of my artists in a very important collection.
